BHEL special care school is a large set up established in 1979, the special school is currently run by Ms. Snehlata Deshpande, the Principal and Ms. M. Vasantha, the Vice-Principal. The mission of the school is to handle, help and rehabilitate disabled and needy children. The building, infrastructure of the school has been provided by BHEL and BHEL continues to support the school’s infrastructural needs.
The school has playground, physio equipment and sensory room. The school caters to about 300 students with some form of disability. There are separate classrooms for students with intellectual or developmental disability and students with physical challenges like visual impairment and hearing/speech impairment to ensure customised curriculum. The teacher to student ratio is 1:12. The school itself caters to age group of up to 18 and some 7-8 students below 6 are given a home based training program to follow. The team at Special Care School consists of a large group of special educators, a physiotherapist and psychologist.
In addition to the above mentioned therapies, students are also given the following therapies: Computer education, Parental counselin, Naturopathy ( yoga , meditation , diet therapy, water play, sand play, music, dance and drama therapy), Sports training, Extracurricular activities ( drawing , quiz, singing, flower arrangement, rangoli, outing, exhibition, cultural activities), Public awareness program, Pre vocational programme for both parents and children.
